Hello, all.
First of all, this topic may not interest all of you, but I was hoping I could get some suggestions about a GPU upgrade.
Currently, I have an nvidia GT640 with 2 GB of ram;however, the screen resolution has always been funky, resulting in text hanging over the edges. Since I don't want to upgrade my PSU, I just want to find one that is good for video playback, games, E.T.C. and is bus powered.
While searching Amazon, I found an evga GTX750T. All the reviews are positive, so is it a good GPU?

Thanks!
The 640 should be perfectly fine; IMO the resolution problem is probably a software issue. Remind me what model of CPU you have? You might just be able to take the GPU out and switch to the onboard.
I also told him I didn't think it was the 640.
The problem I saw was he has a off branded build computer.
Saying that, he may not actually have a 640 installed.
He says he can't find the serial number on the card, so.
Actually, Wayne, there is a serial number on the card, but there is no serial number for the computer. B3n, I have an AMD 6300 processor. When I try to switch to on-board graphics, I can't get HDMI audio to work. For the time being, I re-installed my GT640, since at least I can get audio through it. B3N, I thought you said that the GPU wasn't very good when I told you the computer I was going to get. The new GPU is on its way, and if it works great; otherwise, I will try and troubleshoot the one I have and return the new GPU. That's the great thing about Amazon; they offer returns.
Nathan.
Ah. You never explained why you thought your current card was bad though?
Your processor and all won't affect the operation of the card, and as posted there are settings that can be adjusted.
I suspect the new card will work due to you having all the current software that will be installed when you install the card.
Meaning, all settings will be set correctly as to the size and type of monitor.
That's what I am hoping. Not sure, I have strep throat so haven't been able to do much lately.
Honestly, this sounds like bad drivers, or bad hardware. that card isn't amazing,
sure. but it should be able to play video well enough.
the card you got is a decent low mid upgrade, but I wouldn't be shocked if it
doesn't solve the problem. Hopefully you'll get lucky, because this is a bad card,
or something... But who knows what the deal here is.
I assume you've checked to insure you've propperly configured display settings?
Hi,
I said that in the context of a gaming machine it was a poor GPU. For non gaming use it will be perfectly fine.
You could try booting into the UEFI / BIOS with the computer connected to a monitor to rule out any Windows issues. You may also want to connect the machine to a couple of different monitors to see if the issues are consistant accross displays.
The 750TI is noticeabley better than the 640, but I'm sure the issues you're having aren't related to performance.
Probably not.
